Thalla a Hiort | Away to St. Kilda
How to translate this phrase...
110 miles west of the mainland, and 41 miles west of Benbecula, St. Kilda is the most remote place we have in Scotland. So telling someone to go there... Well, you've no intention of seeing them again anytime soon, let's put it that way.
On St. Kilda are a population of Soay sheep, unique to that particular island. There's a bit of a debate at the minute about the future of these sheep and how much human interference they should get as now mostly feral sheep who were originally looked after by the people who lived there until the 1930s.
So, wild animals or ex-farm animals who deserve a bit of help? Thalla a Hiort is gheibh thu beachd air.
These are Linoprints! The image is hand carved (in reverse) and then once finished it has ink rolled onto the surface, paper placed on top and then lots of pressure applied with a clean roller. The parts that haven't been carved away will be printed onto the paper, leaving the finished image.
Disclaimer - This means that they will vary slightly from piece to piece. The base will be the same and I won't send out any that don't print right, but some might have a bit more texture, might be darker or lighter in colour, may have differences in some of the shapes with the way the ink has spread.
Prints and stickers are printed and shipped separately from any tshirts, hoodies or mugs so don't panic if you order something else too and they don't arrive together!
